New Product Launch

Sustainability Performance – Governance and Economic Dimension

▪ New Product Launch

On July 16, at the Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center for the third time that new steel grades and products are launched. GMTC invited nearly 200 participants from industry, government, and academia to witness the debut of two major new products: Advanced Pre-Hardened Plastic Mold Steel TS-GPA1 and 8% Chromium Cold Work Steel TS-GCA1.

This year’s releases, TS-GPA1 and TS-GCA1, are the results of collaborative research between GMTC, National Tsing Hua University, National Taipei University of Technology, and the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC). They also belong to commonly used general-purpose steel grades that represent the largest consumption volume in the market. Through metallurgical design, the R&D team optimized alloy composition and improved processes, enhancing toughness, hardenability, and polishability. These improvements address common issues in large-section steels, such as insufficient hardenability in the core, polishing difficulties, and texturing limitations, while also increasing compressive strength and wear resistance—ultimately improving product yield and extending mold life.

GMTC began its collaboration with MIRDC, National Tsing Hua University, and National Taipei University of Technology two years ago, releasing new tool steel materials annually. To strengthen communication between steel producers and customers, GMTC has also organized technical seminars through Chin Yun Steel, fostering alignment between mills and end users. With this accumulated effort and momentum, GMTC looks forward to driving a shift in the domestic high-end tool steel market.
